CBT Therapy for Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem is having an overall negative opinion about what kind of person you are and reflected in the negative way in which you may value or judge yourself. It’s often difficult to put it into words you simply have a prevailing sense of being worthless or inadequate.

At the very heart of low self-esteem is a core belief that you’re just not good enough: there is something fundamentally ‘wrong’ with who you are.

These beliefs are reflected through the negative thoughts you may have about yourself, such as:

‘I’m bad’
‘I’m unlovable’
‘I’m unattractive’
‘I don’t matter’
‘I’m useless’
‘I’m a failure’
‘I’m stupid’
‘I’m odd’

Low self-esteem has a strong impact on many areas of your life and can have a severely damaging effect.  Your thoughts will be full of self-blame, self-criticism and self-condemnation. You will tend to focus on your weaknesses and totally discount your positive qualities.

These thoughts and beliefs you have about yourself can be accompanied by feelings of intense shame, anxiety, depression, guilt, frustration and anger.

These emotions will also influence how you behave in day-to-day situations.

You may have difficulty in asserting yourself.
You may find you avoid taking on new challenges.
You may have an over-eagerness to please others and to always seek their approval.
You may always need to appear confident and in control.
You must always strive to be perfect.

Our team of Therapists is experienced in helping people regain control of their confidence and develop healthier self-esteem.

Through a comprehensive assessment, each therapist is able to identify the source of the low self-esteem and develop a plan as to how we can address it. Each session will have a small homework task that will help you progress in your battle against low mood and depression.

We help, adults, couples, children (7+) and specialise in helping individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

We are all fully qualified CBT Psychotherapists with University Degrees in addition to our 2 years CBT Training.

We are all fully accredited members of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
